Description:
Occupational therapy assistants are licensed health care professionals that provide treatment according to a plan developed by or in collaboration with an OT or a licensed physician.
Educational and Licensing Requirements:
Any use of the title “Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA)” within New York State requires licensure. New York authorized occupational therapy assistants have completed an associate's degree in occupational therapy, including studies in similar areas with an emphasis on technical application and have passed a State-approved licensing examination; these programs usually require the completion of at least three months of supervised experience. Must be at least 18 years of age for licensure as an occupational therapist assistant.
